"As far as I ken, naeone has left"

Ragnall glances fleetingly at the door as he sits on the bed opposite, then continues, watching the injured man carefully

"So, we have vampirres frrom th' easterrn sands that walk in daylight. I was expecting as much, afterr he found th' secrret to it. It's likely them he stole it frrom. What of these... 'snatcherrs'? What do ye mean the drrain th' youth frrom them? Do they no' bite like th' otherrs?"

At that moment Thomas runs in to the room.

Isabelle opens her mouth to reply to Jean, when Thomas runs in and tugs at her. She takes in the look on his face and forgets everything else. "Come where, Thomas? and why?"

She is already following him as he stammers an explanation. As he talks, she has to increase her pace, almost running to keep up. "Thank you, Thomas", she says as they reach the men's dormitory.

When she sees the wooden stake embedded deeply in Nicholas' shoulder, she blanches, but it doesn't stop her automatically reaching past her prayer book for the bandages in the bottom of her bag. She makes a large pad out of one and places it on the wooden chest next to the bed.

She keeps her tone light and quiet as she addresses Nicholas, "Mistaken for a vampire, were you? I suppose there's no point asking what you were doing to warrant it?", she smiles grimly at the sweating man, "This is going to hurt and no mistake."

She turns to Ragnall, "As soon as I start praying for him we need to get that out" she says, "I want you to pull it out as fast as you can and then put that", pointing to the heavy bandage pad, "over the wound and push down as hard as you can for as long as you can. Sometimes I do wish the Lord was a little more rapid in answering prayers for healing." She sighs and kneels by the bed. "Ready?"

"Uh... I don't know why" Thomas replies "But, Ragnall said to come get you and it sounded ur urgent"

Thomas leads Isabelle and Jean to the dormitories, finding Nicholas and Ragnall in a room. Thomas gasps loudly as he see Nicholas "Oh no! What happened Nicholas? Are you alright? Is he going to be alright?"

Just as the others enter the room Nicholas replies to Ragnall "From the eye witness accounts they don't need to bite.....and I didn't see marks on Alyssa's throat."

"Ah Lady Isabelle no, I was mistaken for a Snatcher in fact, I should be thankful that Vampires are not used to staking someone and missed. As for what I was doing, why I was just following the Bishops orders, and once you have patched me up, I can get back out there and finish the job." A dangerous, murderous look crosses his face briefly and is gone again just as quickly.

He looks down as Lady Isabelle lays out the tools of her trade, and then down at the large jagged piece of wood impaled in this shoulder. His breathing starts to quicken and he starts to mutter under his breathe and clutches the locket tightly in his hand.

As Isabelle began to start her prayers and pleas to God, Ragnall stood in front of Nicholas, there eyes meet in Grim determination, and Ragnall puts one hand with the bandages on Nicholas's chest for leverage, and then the other hand on the improvised stake. With a strong yank, Ragnall pulled the wood out and slammed the bandage in place. Nicholas's gasped back a yell of anguished pain, his eyes rolled back in his head and he almost collapsed back on the bed. His breahting rageed and all colour drained from his face as the prayers continued.

Lady Maria sees Isabelle & Thomas sprint past decides to follow them and enters to room to see Ragnall prepare to pull the stake from Nicholas’ shoulder. She hears Isabelle’s exclamation on the speed of healing.

“May I try something Isabelle.” Maria asks politely. “I have been praying to the lord since we got on that forsaken boat on that very question and I hope my prayers have been answered.”

Without stopping her prayers, Isabelle nods to Lady Maria.

Receiving a nod from Isabelle Maria kneels beside Nicholas placing a hand on his shoulder near the wound. She closes her eyes and starts praying in latin, while the others watch the wound in Nicholas’s shoulder and the scratches on his face slowly close until the only traces that he has been in a fight are the smears of blood and the torn clothes.

A genuine smile spreads across Lady Maria's face seconds before she passes out on the floor.

Isabelle mutters, "It's a miracle", her eyes round. She looks away from Nicholas just in time to see Lady Maria's eyes roll back in her head and she thumps to the floor.

She stops for a moment, with the oddest expression on her face, then suddenly bursts out laughing. Still giggling, she transfers her hands from Nicholas to Maria and starts to pray again...

Following Thomas and Isabelle to where Nicholas lay bleeding Jean winced as the stake was removed. Jean had always been better at suffering pain, than watching it in those he cared about.

Watching the miracle of the older man's wounds knitting themselves together was something he doubted he'd ever get used to. God's work on earth, we must truly be doing something worthwhile here he thought. The distraction of such things probably explained why he failed to catch Lady Maria as she fell.

(OOC Not because people reply faster than I can type! This is the 3rd version of what Jean's doing dont'ya know...)

Lady Maria starts snorring softly and Isabelle comes to the conclusion that she is probably just exhausted from the horrible boat ride, staying out far too late last night and manfesting a new power for the first time. Though the prayers help for the brand new bump on her head.

Ragnall frowns as Nicholas reels from the trauma, and the expression only deepens as he presses the bandage in place. Laying the unresisting man down, he barely pays attention to the women as he shifts his grip to manage with one hand while retrieving the stake with the other. Looking at it carefully he swears under his breath and grimaces at Nicholas once more just as he seemed to be coming back around

"Sorry frriend, it's nae overr yet"

As Nicholas grits his teeth, the Scotsman changes his hold on the bandage and even as Isabelle continues to pray, slides two fingers under it and with a twist, into the wound itself. As Nicholas roars in agony, Ragnall twists his fingers in the wound ever so slightly, before drawing them out slowly, covered in blood. As Nicholas' scream gives way to gasping for breath, Ragnall holds up the two intrusive fingers to reveal his prize - a sliver of wood, half as big as a man's finger, and a similarly sized shard of bone firmly lodged in it. He places the odd token in the woodsman's open-lying hand before compressing the shoulder once more, the firmness of his grip surprising Nicholas and drawing another wince

"Rright then, you just lay quietly forr a spell and when you'rre done bleeding we'll talk morre on this scrrap ye bent on"

As Nicholas smiles feebly, both men are suddenly dumbstruck as Maria adds her prayers to Isabelle's, and the near instantaneous result. As Isabelle laughs and shifts her attention, Ragnall simply looks down on the gently snoring form and crosses himself...

Isabelle finishes her quick prayer for Maria and manages to stifle the fit of giggles. "Jean, Ragnall, do you think you could put Maria in her bunk in the ladies dormitory. I believe hers is the third from the left." She glances at Ragnall again and wrinkles her nose. "Perhaps you should wash your hands first though."

She turns to Nicholas and picks up the bandages. At his quizzical look, she says "I assume folk not of the Order saw that piece of timber sticking out of you, so to preserve our little secrets, I think we'd best bandage you. We can say the blood on your face was wiped there by you, by accident and that there were no real wounds underneath."

She matches actions to words, making him take the rags of his shirt off and then bandaging the perfectly healthy shoulder and chest underneath. "At least try to make it look like you're a bit injured" she grimaces.

"Of course M'lady" he replies. Rather than throw her over his shoulder Jean waits for Ragnall to wash his hands.
