What to do when you spot a spambot

Postby elPresidente » Fri, 30 Oct, 2009 9:41 am

Hi guys,

Friendly neighbourhood Diatribe stop-gap admin here. We've recently taken the forum off moderator approval for new members in light of the improved captcha system that has cut down on spam registrations by 99%. This makes it easier and faster for new members to enjoy the boards, but does mean that the 1% that sneaks past the captcha (which is so hard that even real people struggle with it) will occasionally post.

When that happens, please just ignore the posts. You don't need to post here to tell me there is a spam bot, I will see it and recognise it when I log on. If I don't happen to be logged on, posting here won't be much help either, since I won't be here to read it.

If at all possible, please don't respond to the spam bots either. When I delete the user, I delete all their posts with them, so it will just be confusing to see a response to something that's not there any more. You can respond if you really want to, but it's probably best if you don't.

In short, if you seem an active spambot, don't panic, just ignore it and I'll make it go away when I next log on.

Ah yes .... a president that talks so casualy about "getting rid of them" and "making them disappear" while refering to themselves as "elPresidente" .... I'm scared :P

We have spambots again. I'm just posting this to remind people of Anna's policy above on what to do: nothing.

The spambots were taken care of. Apologies, both Admin were at Serenity.
